How to Calculate the Right Amount of River Stone for Landscaping

Planning a landscaping project with river stone? Estimating the correct quantity helps you avoid shortages or excess material. The right depth and measurements ensure better coverage, drainage, and long-lasting results.

1. Measure the Area Correctly

Start by calculating the size of the space you want to cover. Multiply the length by the width to get square metres. Accurate measurements ensure you order the right amount of stone.

2. Choose the Appropriate Depth

Depth depends on how the river stone will be used:
• 50mm for light decorative coverage
• 75mm for standard landscaping
• 100mm for drainage or deeper fill

3. Convert Area into Volume

Multiply the area (m²) by the depth (m) to calculate cubic metres needed. For example, a 10m² area at 50mm depth requires around 0.5m³ of river stone.
